Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Workday Lead Financial Functional Lead for a high‑impact, three‑month engagement supporting a critical phase of a Workday implementation. This role is responsible for leading structured functional discovery with HR and Finance leadership, translating complex business, regulatory, and operational requirements into clear Workday‑specific functional requirements, and supporting execution through procurement and early delivery phases.
The consultant will provide functional leadership across and Financial domains, ensure requirements are clearly documented and traceable, and enable an objective, defensible evaluation and implementation approach
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structured discovery workshops with HR, Finance, Payroll, Budget, Procurement, and related stakeholders to document current‑state processes, pain points, regulatory considerations, and prioritized future‑state objectives
- Own and maintain the functional scope and assumptions package, including in‑scope and out‑of‑scope definitions, dependencies, risks, constraints, and recommended implementation phasing
- Author, review, and finalize Workday and Financials functional content, including requirements, workflows, business rules, security roles, controls, reporting, and compliance considerations, written with sufficient clarity to support vendor execution
- Define proposal‑level expectations for integrations and data conversion, including key interfaces, source and target systems, data flows, and third‑party dependencies
- Establish clear and consistent expectations for system integrator delivery approaches, including design, configuration, testing, training, change management, cutover, and stabilization, to enable comparable vendor proposals
- Manage the execution cadence by maintaining the workplan, facilitating weekly working sessions, tracking decisions, and maintaining RAID logs
- Coordinate with IT, Security, and Procurement teams to ensure alignment between functional, technical, and sourcing requirements
- Serve as the primary Workday functional liaison between business stakeholders and the selected system integrator
- Validate functional designs and configuration decisions against approved requirements, scope, and assumptions
- Support testing strategy execution, including UAT planning, defect triage, and prioritization
- Assist with change management readiness, training alignment, and business process adoption activities
- Support cutover planning and post‑go‑live stabilization
- Provide continuity from procurement through early implementation delivery
Qualifications
- Proven experience leading Workday Financials functional discovery, requirements definition, and scope and assumptions development
- Workday Pro Certification required in at least one primary functional domain (Financials); additional Workday certifications strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience authoring or contributing to Workday RFIs or RFPs and related procurement artifacts, including requirements matrices, evaluation criteria, and demo scripts
- Strong working knowledge of Workday business processes across Payroll, Finance, Budget, and Procurement
- Ability to facilitate cross‑functional workshops, reconcile competing priorities, and document decisions with audit‑ and procurement‑ready traceability
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality written deliverables under tight timelines while managing stakeholders, approvals, and dependencies within a three‑month engagement
