Kong API Gateway Engineer / API Gateway Developer

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Kong API Gateway Engineer to design, develop, and maintain API gateways and microservices with a strong focus on security, performance, and reliability. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in integrating Kong with various systems and platforms, enhancing the overall system architecture, and supporting DevOps practices for seamless deployment and operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and manage API gateways using Kong, including route definitions, plugins, and security policy enforcement.

  • Develop and maintain microservices interacting with the Kong API gateway, utilizing languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js.

  • Implement robust security mechanisms within Kong, including authentication, authorization, and encryption to ensure secure API access.

  • Optimize the performance and scalability of Kong and associated services through monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting.

  • Integrate Kong with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), databases, and other microservices to build scalable solutions.

  • Participate actively in DevOps workflows, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.

  • Document system architecture, API specifications, and operational procedures comprehensively.

  • Collaborate closely with development teams, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver effective, secure API solutions.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with Kong API Gateway configuration, plugin development, and management.

  • Proficiency in microservices programming languages: Java, Python, or Node.js.

  • Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing tools.

  • Strong understanding of API security principles, including authentication, authorization, and encryption methods.

  • Solid knowledge of RESTful API design and best practices.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for performance tuning and issue resolution.

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the airline industry or related sectors.

  • Advanced cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Professional Architect).
