Position will be 2 days remote with 2 days (Mon, Tues & Thurs) required to be ONSITE at the location listed above.
The program will only allow candidates who are LOCAL TO THE AUSTIN AREA ONLY (Within 50-mile radius).
Please do not submit candidates who are currently out of state and are planning to move to Texas. Candidates must already reside in Texas.

Job Description:
The role of UI/UX designers is central to improving accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of the HHSC eligibility systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Proven UX Design Experience: Extensive portfolio demonstrating expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping (low and high-fidelity), and usability testing.
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with established accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
- Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
- Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure that design decisions are aligned with business objectives.
- Employ a comprehensive suite of tools—including Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar—and implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies.
- Experience with AI/ML Interfaces: Demonstrated experience designing user interfaces for systems that incorporate Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, with a focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles.
- Complex System Design: Ability to understand and design for complex business logic and regulatory requirements, particularly in domains like government services, healthcare, or finance.
- Data Visualization: Skill in presenting complex data and AI insights in a clear, concise, and understandable visual format.
- Empathy and User Advocacy: Deep commitment to understanding user needs and advocating for user-centered design principles.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design solutions to stakeholders.
- Understanding of Accessibility Standards: Knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines to ensure inclusive design.
- Bonus: Experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications.
