Position Overview

The Athena Health Implementation Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning,

coordination, and execution of AthenaOne platform implementations across healthcare

organizations. This role ensures successful deployment by aligning clinical, operational, and

revenue cycle workflows with system capabilities while driving stakeholder engagement,

adoption, and overall project success.

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

• Develop and manage detailed implementation plans, timelines, and milestones

• Define scope, deliverables, resource needs, and risk mitigation strategies

• Track dependencies across clinical, operational, and revenue cycle workstreams

 

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

• Serve as the primary liaison between client leadership, clinical teams, operational staff,

and Athenahealth

• Facilitate executive updates, project status meetings, and steering committees

• Coordinate third-party vendors and integration partners

 

Implementation Oversight

• Ensure alignment between system capabilities and client workflows

• Oversee coordination of clinical, scheduling, and billing processes within AthenaOne

• Monitor progress and resolve implementation challenges

 

Data Migration & Integration

• Oversee migration of patient, scheduling, and financial data

• Coordinate system integrations (labs, imaging, clearinghouses, etc.)

• Ensure data integrity and validation throughout the migration process

 

Training & Change Management

• Develop and execute user adoption strategies

• Coordinate training programs for clinical and administrative staff

• Establish and support super-user networks

 

Go-Live & Post-Implementation Support

• Lead go-live planning and execution

• Manage command center operations during stabilization

• Track issues, risks, and performance metrics post-launch

 

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Technology, Business, or

related field

• Master’s degree preferred

 

Experience

• 5–10 years of project management experience in healthcare IT

• Experience implementing EHR systems (Athenahealth preferred)

• Strong experience managing cross-functional teams and stakeholders

 

Preferred Certifications

• PMP (Project Management Professional)

• CPHIMS or equivalent
